Angelina Jolie Goodwill Ambassador

Fame can be both a blessing and an intolerable burden depending on how you use it. It is not uncommon for modern celebrities to earn their fame from deeds that should be kept private without having any true talents at all. In other cases, there is undeniable talent but no desire to use it for anything other than landing better roles or recording contracts. In the case of Angelina Jolie, talent and natural beauty have been used to their fullest not just for personal gain but for the betterment of others through her work as a Goodwill Ambassador. This essay looks into how this all came about from unlikely beginnings.

Early Life

Angelina Voight who would later use the surname Jolie professionally was born to parents who were both actors. Her father, John Voight, was fairly famous but he left the family while she was still a child. Throughout most of high school she lived with her boyfriend and took courses on embalming to prepare herself for a career working with the dead. She had acted in minor roles previously but at age sixteen she decided to acting seriously. She found her niche in darker roles and eventually Hollywood loved her for it. She became a trendsetter as a result. When she adopted her first child she set about changing her life for his benefit and began to be involved in charitable organizations.

Humanitarian Work

Her entry into humanitarian issues was in part due to what she witnessed in Cambodia. She visited the war torn nation while filming a movie and it gave her a much deeper understanding of how conflict affects innocent people. She visited other countries in similar distress and donated at least one million dollars to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Not long afterward she was named a Goodwill Ambassador for her efforts. She also began to work on more film projects that dealt with issues that needed highlighting. These have often helped to raise public awareness. Her visits have included nations such as Sudan (prior to its division into two separate nations) and Afghanistan. Her work in the field has been so prolific that she has been awarded the higher title of Special Envoy.

Angelina Jolie’s story is especially inspiring because it could have ended very differently. She managed to put herself on track to achieve not just for herself but for those who are vulnerable.
